Zuolong Canyon

Zuolong Canyon Scenic Area is located at Hongshilin Town of Guzhang County, 35 kilometers away from the downtown Guzhang, and is separated from the Furong Town Scenic Area in Yongshun County by the Youshui River. In 2012, Zuolong Canyon Scenic Area was listed as one of “the new eight sights of Hunan Province”. It is also known as the most marvelous canyon in Central and Southern China. Zuolong Canyon was formed by wind and water erosion over three million years and is famous for its deep valleys, sheer cliffs and rocky paths. Zuolong Canyon is covered by lush vegetation, surrounded by fresh air and run through by clear streams, giving people a feeling of refreshment. Zuolong Canyon is actually a crack in the mountain, going from its top to its foot. Looking up from the valley bottom, one can see only a narrow line of the sky. Zuolong Canyon is 6.5 kilometers long and its lowest altitude is 205 meters while its highest is 992.8 meters; its average depth is more than 100 meters. The average width of the canyon valley is 3 to 5 meters and the narrowest area is wide enough for only one adult. In summer, the temperature of Zuolong Canyon is 19-20℃, much lower than that of Changsha, capital of Hunan Province.
